Comics @ SDSU talks with Zeal Harris about the intersection of her work with comics and social justice activism. Many of Zeal’s works — such as Liturgical Language of a Free Traveler (2017) and Klingon Cloak for a Black Paladin (2016) — juxtapose a series of images (and text) within a single work or in an installation. We’ll explore with Zeal how that juxtaposition of images in deliberate sequence intersects with how comics “work” and how viewers make meaning in the margins. And we’ll talk about how that meaning-making relates to the potential for such art to make a personal impact and inspire activism in response.

Mary Stout hosted Special Guest Jonathan Fahn in her HIST157 classes and opened the event to the wider comics community at SDSU.
